Swadeshi 2.0
Reviving Local Economies. Reimagining Cultural Commerce. Rebuilding Trust.Swadeshi 2.0 is a modern movement to reawaken India’s entrepreneurial spirit by blending cultural authenticity with contemporary tools of business, technology, and storytelling. Inspired by the original Swadeshi Movement of 1905—which aimed to foster self-reliance through the boycott of British goods and the revival of indigenous industries—Swadeshi 2.0 is rooted in the same principles of local empowerment, but geared for the digital, post-industrial economy. What We Do
Swadeshi 2.0 is a platform and initiative focused on:Cultural entrepreneurship: Elevating Kolkata-based and pan-Indian creators, artisans, independent brands, and small businesses through compelling narratives, digital visibility, and trust-based community engagement.Local-first commerce: Promoting curated, quality-first products and services—from arts and crafts to sustainable fashion and regional foods like Bandel cheese—emphasizing traceability, heritage, and impact.Community-powered storytelling: Through our parent content platform Chondimondop, we explore science, art, business, and philosophy in deeply researched episodes that serve as both public education and cultural dialogue.Micro-brand incubation: We aim to support small-scale entrepreneurs, freelancers, and creative professionals—especially women, youth, and underrepresented communities—with brand development, digital storefronts, and ethical monetization strategies.Decentralized business values: Embracing first-principles thinking, ethical sourcing, and low-waste systems inspired by the likes of Acharya P.C. Ray, our spiritual forerunner in both scientific and commercial innovation. Our Objectives (2025–2030)
Launch 10+ community-led Swadeshi brands in food, fashion, wellness, and storytelling by 2026.
Generate first-year profits across all verticals, focusing on sustainable, lean business models.Build a 100K+ engaged community of conscious consumers, creators, and investors across platforms.
Partner with 25+ independent creators and micro-enterprises by 2027 through Swadeshi-backed collaborations and co-branded campaigns.Digitally map Kolkata’s maker economy, highlighting forgotten artisans, local entrepreneurs, and regional specialties to create a trusted, map-based product-discovery engine.Bridge old and new India—philosophically and economically—through modern adaptations of legacy ethics: transparency, fairness, creativity, and courage. Why Swadeshi 2.0?
Today’s creative economy in Bengal and beyond suffers from three gaps:Trust Deficit – Between buyers and small brands in a fragmented, oversaturated digital market.
Cultural Invisibility – Indigenous stories, products, and voices are often lost in the noise of global platforms.Lack of Scalable Infrastructure – Talented people lack branding, funding, and exposure, even though their work has intrinsic value.
Swadeshi 2.0 is our answer to this challenge.By fostering locally rooted, globally resonant brands, we’re not only challenging old narratives ("deshi means inferior") but proving that creativity, integrity, and profit can coexist. Our work is anchored in Kolkata but speaks to a global Indian and diasporic audience hungry for authenticity and purpose.Leadership and Legacy
This initiative is co-led by Sriloy Dey, Ph.D., a chemist, material scientist, and educator with 15+ years of experience in research, innovation, and science-driven entrepreneurship; and Professor Sanchita Goswami, a scientist and mentor at the University of Calcutta whose lab sits next to the legendary Acharya P.C. Ray’s room—his vision a guiding force for this new economic imagination. Our Non-Negotiables
Every product, collaboration, or campaign must benefit our community (“fam”), culturally or economically.Every project must generate value—financial or reputational—from Day 1.
The brand must stand for trust, integrity, curiosity, art, and class.
The Future We Envision
Swadeshi 2.0 is not a nostalgia project. It’s a blueprint for economic dignity, a belief that India's creative class and small entrepreneurs deserve capital, culture, and community—not charity. We invite you to walk with us, support what you love, and help reimagine commerce—not just for profit, but for pride.
